Baby Furniture – Must Haves
Much as we may want to deny it, having a new baby means having additional expenses.
With the many things that you would have to buy, you need to differentiate between pieces of baby furniture that are absolutely necessary and those that are mere fills.
Here are the absolute top five furniture pieces that you really should have in your nursery.
Crib
Whether you’re planning to co-sleep with your baby at night, you would still need to have a sturdy and safe baby crib. The crib is the only piece of furniture on which you may safely leave your baby unattended for a short period of time.
Cribs these days have been made based on government guidelines on product safety. Otherwise, these would never make it out on the market. You should still be extra careful and vigilant though. Even to this day, there are product recalls. The recalls usually happen when certain features are discovered to be potentially dangerous. Keep your ears and eyes peeled for online news on recent product recalls.
Portable Crib/ Playpen
Having a nursery crib is one thing, while having a portable crib or a portable playpen is another. Portables like these would come in handy for parents who would like to enjoy family trips and picnics with their babies.
Similar to nursery cribs, any standard portable cribs are also made with safety features in mind. Do remember though that like standard cribs, portables may also be recalled if they have features that may still be improved on. Some parents also use portable cribs as their main nursery crib. It is probably safest though not to use portables as all around cribs.
Cabinet/ Changing Table
A new occupant in the house like your new baby would also require new storage space for clothes, diapers and other miscellaneous items. A sturdy cabinet with back brackets would be a good piece of furniture to store baby items in. To save you some cash, you should consider buying a baby cabinet that can double as a changing table. This way, you only have to buy one piece of furniture that can perform two functions. A good design would be a piece with a changing table on top and open shelves or drawers below to hold baby items. The top storage compartment could hold diapers and other changing articles to make baby changing an easier chore.
High Chair
As soon as your baby finds out that he can sit and move around while feeding, things can begin to get really messy. You don’t want to forever keep chasing after your baby. This is why you need a good high chair for baby meal time. Pick one with a wide sturdy base to prevent tipping accidents.
Toy Box
Teaching your child how to pick his toys up after playing should start as soon as he knows where to find his toys or as soon as he can pick them up. This is why it is probably a good idea for you to get your child a toy box. Teach him to store his toys after play so that he can carry over the habit until adulthood. Pick a toy box that doesn’t have a heavy lid. It should also ideally have a lock in place spring to prevent the lid from falling on your child. Other safe designs include the open storage piece that is easy for your baby to use.

How to Stimulate Your Child’s Intellect
Stimulate your infant’s visual sense by surrounding them with color. Place them in a play pen such as the Graco Pack n Playard so they’ll be surrounded by different colors and shapes for them to look at. Hang colored shapes on the wall.
Why Stimulating Your Newborn’s Intellect Is Critical
Hang colored shapes on the wall or hang a mobile above their playpen. You might also want to hang a baby-safe mirror on the wall so your baby can recognize themselves. Whatever you can add to spice up the visual excitement of your infant’s world … Play a CD of nature sounds for your child – whistling wind, rainforest sounds, or rain showers – anything to stimulate your infant’s sense of hearing.
More Than a Play Pen
While a proper playpen is a good idea, like a Friendly Toys Little Playzone, eventually they’re going to explore your house and you need to plan for every eventuality. Secure any furniture that moves, keep televisions away from the edge.
You Need More Than a Play Pen to Childproof Your House
Of course, another option is to place your infant into a playpen or even a Little Playzone, for extra security, knowing that they won’t go far. You really never can be too safe when child-proofing your house, considering the risks.

Manufacturers have decided that functionality is essential to success, and they’re right. The best products are not only safe, they’re durable, user-friendly, and tailored to your busy lifestyle. You’ll find ergonomic strollers with comfort features such as cup holders for parents, built-in containers for baby wipes, and customized storage. Many products today are developed with several uses in mind: dressers that do double duty as changing tables and play yards that function as portable bassinets and changing tables.
Safety is a major concern among product manufacturers, and safer designs continue to evolve while new safety-related products continually are added to the mix. You’ll find an array of products — supermarket cart covers, high chair covers for restaurants, and disposable place mats — designed to keep babies safe from germs.
Having a playpen for your baby can make a big difference in how your day goes.
You can do these things while knowing where your baby is at all times. He is safe in his playpen and you don’t have to worry about any unforeseen dangers. However, you do need to remember that the playpen is only as safe as you make it and you do need to follow some baby playpen safety tips to ensure his safety.
Baby playpens are a great help during your busy day, but don’t make a habit of leaving your baby in one for very long periods of time. They need to crawl around on the floor some and experience other types of environments.
A portable crib would be the best place for baby to sleep when you are away from home. They can be easily transported anywhere as they usually have wheels and can be easily folded into a compact size. A portable crib is usually made of wood or metal. Vertical slats may also be found on its sides.
When selecting a Portable crib, safety features should be your number one consideration. Portable cribs do not follow same safety standards as the full size cribs. As a matter of fact, the manufacturers often use same safety standards required for baby playpens. As parents, you must ensure that the portable crib you are purchasing is safe for baby.
1. Be sure that it is constructed using high grade material. The construction should be sturdy and would not sway when an adult leans on it.
Many parents only have a vague idea of all of the baby gear they’ll need for their baby. The basics include a car seat (assuming you have a vehicle), a stroller (unless you plan to wear your baby in a wrap, and even then most babies are too heavy to wear by the time they are a year old), an infant seat or high chair (somewhere to place your baby for feeding time and snack time), and a place to sleep.

Toddler travel beds are becoming an increasingly popular child sleep aid for parents on the go or for kids who need a little extra comfort in an unfamiliar environment.
To keep infants safe and secure, the Peapod Travel Bed is an inflatable mattress that offers a little extra in its design. Surrounded by a zipper pocket, the mattress is covered by a fold-down design that pops up and twists into a comforting shelter for your toddler. When placed into its compact position, the Peapod is easy to transport, as well as clean. The sleeping pad is washable and the entire unit can be used for both indoor and outdoor adventures.

As far as a bassinet goes it is up to you remember that a baby will not use this very long.
